DEVELOPING A WEBSITE: BASICS, CONTENT AND CHARACTERISTICS

ERNAD SEHIC

In the next five blogs, I would like to use practical knowledge to explain what a website is about and how you can plan, design and develop it correctly.

The biggest goal that a website should achieve is to get the visitor to take a certain action. How successful the website perform us than measured with the "conversion rate". The conversion rate tells you how much of the visitors actually performed a predefined action, i.e. subscribed to the newsletter, buy a certain product...

What is important in terms of content?

When developing a website, you always should have the visitor's action in mind, and really focus on it. Elements that have nothing to do with the visitor's action, should not be shown. On average, you have less than 10 seconds to get the visitor's attention. Think carefully! Many visitors only scroll through the page from top to bottom, therefore overlooking important parts.

Your task is to make the important parts stand out. Work with big headings, boldly body text and supporting graphics!

Hero Section

Focus on the viewport of the visitor. Find out beforehand which end device plays a primary role and optimize from the start! In the hero section, you describe the purpose of the website. It is therefore one of the most important elements on the page and must therefore be formulated excellently. The headline is best addressed directly to the problems and complaints of your target group so that everyone can identify with them quickly. The sub-heading is more of a support and should arouse curiosity.

Properly sell the service or product

It comes down to telling a story. Try somehow to guide your visitors in a certain situation. In any case, convince him why the product or solution is the best and why he needs exactly this.

Build trust - but how?

Even if you develop the best website in the world, you really need to stick to your words. It does not help to develop a great website, but the product or service is performing poor. If the product or service preform great, they receive good reviews and feedback. Implement them in the website. Trust can be transmitted well through humanity, and that works well visually with pictures. If it is about a product or service, then briefly introduce the owner. Describe the problem and why they have shaped a solution for it. If there are any partners or companies the website should relate to, place their logos on the website too. Don't describe them in great detail, it is enough for the visitors to see a logo to generate trust.

Call-to-action

The reaction from the visitor has to be triggered again and again in the entire website. This must not be overlooked by the visitor and must make it super easy to respond to an offer. Visitors shouldn't search forever to buy something, to register or to contact the representative. That's exactly why you do NOT include a button at the very end, but rather on each section!

Optimize for SEO

The whole website in useless if it is not found somehow. But the goals is not to get all possible visitors to the site, but the right ones. Therefore, the right keywords have to be searched for, summarized and the integrated into the text of the page beforehand.

Evaluate and optimize

After the site is online, statistics have to be analyzed and data evaluated. This is the only way you can determine if your solution works.
